Fall is upon us! We survived another scorching Texas summer, but we’re willing to bet your house endured some punishment throughout the season. Thankfully, we’re here to share some helpful fall home cleaning tips, so that you can usher in the brisk cool weather with a beautiful home.
Clean Your Gutters – Here in the next month, we’ll start to see leaves everywhere and they usually tend to end up in the most inconvenient places. These leaves can fall from the trees onto your roof and clog your rain gutters, which can severely damage your home. Clogged gutters can cause water blockage and can result in leaks and other drainage problems. Be sure to plan a day where you can safely dig out the leaves from your gutters by using either your hands or a scraper tool.
Clean Out Your Garage – I’m going to take a wild guess and say that a vast majority of our readers have yet to clean out their garage in 2016. Well, it turns out that the fall is the perfect time to carry out this task! Start by planning out what you want to keep and what you’re willing to throw or give away. If you have enough of the later, it may be a good idea to throw a garage sale to get rid of your extra junk and make a little extra holiday spending cash on the side.
Drain and Store Hoses/Pool – It’s also smart to disconnect any garden hoses and drain your outdoor pipes before the cold weather hits. If your water hose is still intact during periods of low temperatures, it can lead to the pipes freezing over and eventually bursting. This can cause severe damage to your home and your pocketbook, so make sure you properly drain all outside water sources!
Protect Your Plants -The weather can unexpectedly drop to extremely low temperatures at any time, so it’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your yard. Prevent frost damage to your bushes, flowerbeds, and potted plants by covering them with blankets or applying extra mulch to their beds.
Sweep Your Chimney – Your fireplace probably hasn’t been put into use in over a year and it’s likely still carrying the dust and ash from that last session. Before turning it back on to warm your home, have a professional come out to inspect it and sweep it so it can operate with 100% efficiency.
